A Bedroom Makeover
The hubby and I are in the middle of a long project in giving our bedroom a makeover. I love interior design, sometimes I think about going to school to do it professionally but, I enjoy doing it for fun. So here are some things I always keep in mind when I decide to give any room a little or big makeover
Bedroom Makeover Project
Define the problem:
I knew I needed to redo my bedroom a long while ago. There was just so much clutter and things that I was not happy with in the room. So I made a list of things I did not like about the room and by writing it down I knew what it was that needed to change.
Dislikes:
* Wall color
*No sense of relaxation when walking through the door
*Old outdated curtains
*Too much unnecessary junk!
Once I knew what the problem areas were, I then made a list and went shopping! The hubby and I bought some paint and painted the room a pretty blueish, purple color.The color of the walls in the picture above matches very similarly to the color we used. It was an instant change to the room. The paint made it brighter and it was refreshing! We also got some new curtains and bedding so make everything go together.
Tip Number 1: Create symmetry doing this gives the space a great cohesive look. We want to get some matching candle holder that attach to the wall and put one on each side above our bed and some wall frames that have the collage of frames together.
Tip Number 2: Lighting! I read someone that a room should have three sources of lighting, we did this by having our ceiling light, natural light coming though the window during the day, and aromatherapy candles. I do want to get a small night lamp, for reading during late hours of the night.
Tip Number 3: Clear away all of that clutter! Remove or hide away all things that do not promote relaxation. This is especially key when giving a bedroom a makeover. A bedroom should be a place of peace and comfort. We had so much junk and unnecessary things in our bedroom its no wonder the room felt so busy! I cleared off the tops of the dresser and nightstand and placed all work and school related items in a different place where you don't see it in the room. I decorated the dresser and night stand with mementos. It's a great way to display pictures and items you get when you go on vacation and such.
Well that's that pretty much it. Hope this helps anyone who is planning to do some room makeovers :)
